First (1st) Public Review of
revised Standard BSR/IIAR 2-202x
Safety Standard for Design of Closed-Circuit Ammonia
Refrigeration Systems

Background Information

The proposed revised standard, BSR/IIAR 2-202x, is a safety standard directed toward the safety of persons and property on or near the premises where the refrigeration systems are located. It is not intended to supplant existing safety codes (e.g., model mechanical or fire codes) where these may take precedent.

This proposed safety standard revision has been approved by IIAR's Board of Directors for public review.  It includes direction for the minimum safe design standards for equipment, piping, controls, signage, safety systems, overpressure protection, machinery rooms, and areas other than machinery rooms that contain refrigerating equipment.

This first (1st) public review of the draft safety standard will be conducted from March 20th, 2020 through May 4th, 2020. Comments must be submitted to IIAR no later than May 4th, 2020. Click here for a copy of the public review draft in electronic (pdf) form that can be printed from your computer.

Copies will also be provided by fax or mailed upon request. Click here for the on-line request form, or click here to download a pdf file of the request form.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI) procedures will be utilized to develop evidence of consensus for this proposed standard.  IIAR is the ANSI-Accredited standards developer for BSR/IIAR 2-202x. Individuals, organizations, companies, government agencies, standards developers, etc., who are directly and materially affected by the proposed standard are invited to participate in the public review.
