Third (3rd) Public Review of revised Standard BSR/IIAR 2-2014, Addendum A
Standard for Safe Design of Closed-Circuit Ammonia Refrigeration Systems

Background Information

The proposed revised standard, BSR/IIAR 2-2014, Addendum A is intended to provide corrections and clarifications of IIAR 2-2014 published in November of 2015. In addition, a few new provisions were added as a result of a gap analysis with ASHRAE 15. Further, the scope of the standard was expanded to include ammonia absorption refrigeration. The standard is directed toward the safety of persons and property on or near the premises where the refrigeration systems are located. It supplements existing general refrigeration standards issued by IIAR and other organizations such as ASHRAE, ASME, and ANSI. It is not intended to supplant existing safety codes (e.g., model mechanical or fire codes).

This proposed standard revision has been approved by IIAR's Board of Directors for public review. It includes direction for the minimum design standards for equipment, piping, controls, signage, safety systems, overpressure protection, machinery rooms, and areas other than machinery rooms that contain refrigerating equipment.

This third (3rd) public review of the draft standard addendum will be conducted from October 5, 2018 through November 4, 2018. Comments must be submitted to IIAR no later than November 4, 2018. Click here for a copy of the public review draft in electronic (pdf) form that can be printed from your computer.

Copies will also be provided by fax or mail upon request. Click here for the on-line request form, or click here to download a pdf file of the request form.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI) procedures will be utilized to develop evidence of consensus for this proposed standard. IIAR is the ANSI-Accredited standards developer for BSR/IIAR 2-2014, Addendum A. Individuals, organizations, companies, government agencies, standards developers, etc., who are directly and materially affected by the proposed standard are invited to participate in the public review.
